From Turmoil to Zen

"Lauren has helped shift my mindset. I feel like I have control over my life now. I have more confidence and more clarity. I now know I am a good mom and that I’m good at my job. I have pushed through so many mental obstacles without being hard on myself, and I feel so proud of the work I’ve done.”
Denise wasn’t always stressed out; in fact, she used to be super chill. When life threw her a curveball, she would knock it out of the park. But that all changed the second that she became a mom. Which ooooh man, changes you in ways that you never thought possible, and understandably so, it threw Denise for a loop....
No one can prepare you for motherhood, so Denise just went with the flow making it past the first year. It wasn’t until she went back to work where things started to spiral down. Balancing a busy career while being a mother triggered her undiagnosed postpartum anxiety/depression. She was drowning. Feeling depleted, Denise took time off work she needed to focus on her health. After receiving holistic care, she started to feel like “the shit” again and went back to work with a new outlook. Denise was going to set boundaries. She believed that this time things were different.
She had all the best intentions, but it still didn’t matter. Slowly, old unhealthy habits came creeping back as the demands of life caused her to stress out again. With the additional challenges of being a working mother, it was getting to be too much. That’s when I started working with her. We instantly bonded over how we both went to therapy to deal with the trauma of being a first-time mom.
While working with Denise, I realized that she really tried to set boundaries, but she didn’t know how. You can only set boundaries with others once you have established them for yourself. If you don’t know how to do this, it’s kinda like putting together IKEA furniture without the instructions - impossible!
We started working on ways in which Denise could put boundaries in place for herself, and then, everything started to click. She began drinking lots of water, exercising more frequently, and eating foods that gave her energy.

As a result, she became more sure of her decisions and started asking for more support in all aspects of her life. She also started spending more quality time with her son, often takes time for herself, and finally did things that made her happy. All of which lowered her stress levels.
